Kari Matsko is a grassroots leader and property owner atop the Marcellus, Utica and Devonian shales in Ohio. After suffering health affects from gas drilling fugitive emissions in 2006 and finding no Ohio nonprofit nor local officials who could help , she contacted Earthworks who assisted her in initiating the oil and gas grassroots movement in Ohio which is still thriving today. She founded Northeast Ohio Gas Accountability Project(NEOGAP) and People’s Oil & Gas Collaborative-Ohio(POGCO). As a result of her leadership the group was able to amend Ohio’s oil and gas law in 2010. It was the most expansive modification to the law since 1965. Kari’s on the job field training in oil and gas and collaborations with industry and scientific communities led her to be appointed to Ohio’s regulatory rule-making work group and the Ohio State Review of Oil & Natural Gas Environmental Regulations (STRONGER) 2011 Hydraulic Fracturing analysis. Since 2012 she has served in several national and state advisory roles and has traveled extensively to share insight on influencing successful regulatory improvements including participation in two delegations from the USA to Russia and Ukraine.
